New director to head Chapman IP Munich office
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Thomas L Lederer, a German and European Patent Attorney, to lead our Munich office. Tom’s appointment as a Director will further strengthen the firm’s leadership team as we continue to grow and expand our client base across Europe, the UK and worldwide.
Tom is a qualified German and European Patent Attorney who has been active in Intellectual Property since 2007. He is also experienced in acting directly before the Austrian and Swiss Patent Offices, is licensed in Germany for secret patents and regularly handles patent applications at the EPO, German and UK Patent Offices. His experience spans respected law firms, as well as in-house.
Tom studied Physics, Mechanical Engineering and Informatics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München and the Technische Universität (TU) Berlin before turning to Intellectual Property. He studied European Patent Law at Université de Strasbourg (URS), followed by Law for Patent Attorneys at FernUniversität (FU) in Hagen.
He is one of very few (less than 1%) German Patent Attorneys with a Master’s level degree in Computer Science from the LMU Munich. As such he is a highly sought after specialist in the field of software and IT patents.
Commenting on his arrival at Chapman & Co, Tom said: “I am very pleased to be joining this fast-growing and vibrant firm at such an exciting time in the IP world. Joining as a Director will give me the opportunity to grow and shape the business in Germany as well as imprint my mark on the organisation. I relish the responsibilities ahead, and look forward to working with the firm’s existing clients as well as developing new relationships.”
Managing Director Helga Chapman said: “Appointing Tom to join our senior management team is a key milestone in our expansion plans, in particular our representation in Germany and across Europe and the rest of the world. Our strong commitment to providing our clients with exceptional, commercially-driven IP services is one of the cornerstones of our business, and Tom’s appointment will underpin this approach.”
Tom will be based in the firm’s office in Munich’s Altstadt, situated a short walk from the European Patent Office (EPO) buildings in Munich. The location in the FÜNF HÖFE business centre is within an architectural development in the heart of Munich’s old town set around historic buildings. The office provides a modern work environment with meeting and conference facilities for our attorneys and clients to use when they are attending and preparing for hearings at the EPO.
