On a clear, chilly morning on 2 October 2016 two attorneys from Chapman & Co made up part of a relay marathon team running the Clarendon marathon. The picturesque, off road route from Salisbury to Winchester runs along the ancient Clarendon Way. More than 90% is off road, with the trail following country tracks and paths – many of which have not changed since being travelled by the ancient Kings and Queens of England.
Vicky Pugsley (European patent attorney) and Catherine Bonner (Director) are both keen runners but as Vicky said ‘running a marathon each would be a major challenge, getting a team of 4 together and running it in a relay is much more doable, and fun!’.
Catherine added ‘Vicky took the second leg from Broughton to Kings Somborne and it although it was a cold start it was a quick run and a great time of just over an hour (1:01:02). I had the third, longer leg of 12 km from Kings Somborne to Farley Mount and managed it in 1:14:10 – I was pleased as the hill up to Farley mount was a tough one.’ Overall the team managed the marathon in a total time of 4:20:51 hours and came 21st out of a field of 57 teams.
The race is organised by Rotary Clubs of Winchester and Salisbury and their objective is to use the event to raise as much as possible for a wide range of charities and nonprofit making organisations. We hope to muster a full team for the relay this year.
